The Peoples Festival - http://www.peoplesfestival.co.uk/

Isn't it great that there's going to be a music event on the Rye after all these years in High Wycombe, (Mela notwithstanding).

I meet the organiser Marco last night and he's a great chap really keen and happy to be able to put on this fairly ambitious event. Let's all get behind this, so hopefully we will see more of this kind of activity beginning to happen in our town.

Here's a link to their site

Hi Jed, looks like it will be a great day. Lets get some pictures of the day on the site. Mike
Hi Jed..

The Mela was extremely hard work to organise, as was the steward and staff training that I developed to run throughout the planning period.

The death of the Mela was unfortunately bad politics of the town, it became too big an entity and something that no one was willing to assist with but wanted the kudos of..alongside colleagues we fought to keep it Politics free and to encourage true community ownership..

And it was a free event, never ticketed. It was also the largest true cohesion event in Bucks....

It became too much of a hot political potatoe, I fell foul of the extent of posturing that occurs in this authority..

But hey who knows...Last year I came within two weeks of the event being scheduled but had no alternative other than cancelling it as a number of local Asian sponsors were approached by the local authority dissuading them from sponsoring the event. The event was cancelled with a large loss being incurred by me...

I remain as upbeat as I can and have been involved in assisting the team organising the Wembley Eid festival, a charity event to raise awareness and funds for the plight of people in Darfur.
There is an another event scheduled this October in Wembley.
I've just seen that the People's Festival has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales and Artists cancelling.

Its a shame it has been cancelled, was a really great idea.

Unfortunately not wanting to be the voice of doom and gloom the organiser has a bit of a reputation of being a con artist. He organised a similar event in Windsor and cancelled at the last minute, a lot of people never got their money back from the ticket sales. There are also lots of online complaints about ebay cons where people have bought goods from Marco and then have never actually recieved them.

Hoping that this is all a bit of an online hype, but would urge anybody who has bought tickets to follow up on getting a refund....
